Site Selection Analysis

Example site selection map.

The purpose of a site selection analysis based upon travel time or other "attractiveness" feature is to identify the location that provides the best business value. The study area is defined upon the surrounding points (say other facilities). Relative travel time can be calculated (and weighted by volume) to identify best location, and even quantify the relative value of alternative locations being considered.

This technique is ideal for filling in “gaps” in field operations network, and siting logistic support facilities such as garages and warehouses. An example question you might face is: You have appraisals for 2 potential warehouse sites - Is Site A worth $ xxx,xxx more to your company than Site B? Another common question is: You need to move out of a field operation headquarters, where should the replacement site be located?

There are a number of complementary site selection techniques used by landscape architects, architects, engineers, and real estate professionals to evaluate specific property parcels. The technique described here focuses on "where" a facility should go and needs to be part of a broader evaluations of the suitability of specific properties in the target area.
